It is said that elections are won on the doorstep, and that may well be true. Being armchair activists, it’s difficult to check up on that.
Twitter and blogs however are part of our social media present and future, and if the election was decided there, how would each of the wards be looking?
Not us. All new. Pledge 1 – Stand up for residents when decisions are taken

Your leadership, unless you are distancing yourself from @MedwayTories in which case stand as independents
— Naushabah Khan (@naushabahkhan) April 21, 2019
This is not a green or left vs right or 1st world vs 2nd or 3rd world issue. This is about everyone working together to protect our planet. We must face reality. https://t.co/2W27h2ihan

The state of some areas in Luton has deteriorated markedly since 2010 under the @MedwayTories . If you are happy with state of roads and cleanliness vote for them again. pic.twitter.com/9hxWvanYvf

So annoyed again today, I am totally fed up with these bins NEVER, I say NEVER, being emptied by @medway_council on weekends! Both in #Gillingham South and North wards. What a way to greet a visitor from the station.Tories don’t give a damn about Gillingham, change is coming. pic.twitter.com/Qq0Dnquq77

Since 2011 your @MedwayLabour team have seen big improvements in Luton green spaces with focused effort. We have been working with local charities to secure match funding for improvements to area. Pictures from 2011 and today. pic.twitter.com/NvlerFNuIm

Since 2011 we’ve spoken out for our community against vested interest. We’ve challenged the @MedwayTories council on failure to clear drains and @SouthernWater for response to residents after the flash flood. pic.twitter.com/Ol2UD8NgT1

Are we talking about Andrew Lawrence now?
— Cllr Alex Paterson (@ajpaterson) April 21, 2019
Bring back “Third Candidate”. At least their lines were original. And (s)he was a vast improvement on reselected “Racist Candidate”. L&W Tories are on spectacularly thin ice talking about fitness for public office. https://t.co/yjreexyIWd

One of the greatest things about being out on the #LabourDoorstep in Watling is catching up with the absolute legend that is @benpranczke showing his support for Chrissy & Jordan pic.twitter.com/xub47E77HZ

I generally walk the mile to and from the station at the end of a working day, but there are times when that is simply not possible and there is no bus route that serves that journey in any useful way. Our manifesto seeks to address this. pic.twitter.com/dQITAJgIJJ

Good to be out with @CllrDanMcD and @Harinder__Singh today chatting to taxi drivers in Chatham about the upcoming UBER motion this Thursday. @MedwayLabour is clear, we want to support those who play by the rules in Medway. #RebuildingMedway #MedwayForTheMany #MedwayVotes19 pic.twitter.com/Mo3OdgLFm8

I’ve read six local pre-election editions of @MedwayMessenger and it’s safe to say the preview this year disappointing for lack of content by @Kent_Online in Medway over last 4 weeks. They’ve cut and paste statements onto one page. Local bloggers thankfully picking up slack.

Medway Greens (16 candidates)
Lots of discussion on our housing crisis on #politicslive we need to support individuals and couples who are already paying rent which is in most cases higher than the equivalent mortgage!! Greens will ensure that new homes are #ecofriendly & #carbonneutral #affordablehousing
— Kate Belmonte (@LBSigns) April 24, 2019
Young people are being priced out of housing at a local level as Cllr Jarret Is inviting people from London to buy inflated properties in the area. He says that this make business sense. He is not interested in the environment or taking local people's needs in to account.
— Sonia Hyner (@greensonia4RS) April 24, 2019
Medway Council currently recycles 46% of its domestic waste. The worst councils recycle 26% and the best councils recycle 68%. 46% is woefully inadequate. The LA needs local Green support to recycle 100%. Vote Green.
— Sonia Hyner (@greensonia4RS) April 24, 2019
We are opposed to all new house building on the Hoo Peninsula as increased traffic is congesting and polluting the area. If you vote Tory, Labour or UKIP in the LA elections, your vote will be for more mass housing. Vote Green!!!!!!
— Sonia Hyner (@greensonia4RS) April 24, 2019
Three Independent candidates standing for the LA elections on the Peninsula hail from UKIP ranks and then distanced themselves when they saw the national party collapse. What do these individuals stand for now or is more of the same?
— Sonia Hyner (@greensonia4RS) April 25, 2019
Roy Freshwater from UKIP can identify the problems on the Peninsula, but lacks foresight in terms of solutions. The Green Party advocates: Developing on areas of serious deprivation in Chatham, building carbon free houses, cars, motor bikes and buses.
— Sonia Hyner (@greensonia4RS) April 25, 2019
Christian people’s alliance (2 candidates)

So rewarding to offer voters political perspectives beyond capital/growth-centric, short-term goals, to consider the interests of people, animals & nature – for their own sake.#MedwayElects19@AnimalsCount pic.twitter.com/FP7RvsGWTb
They're protesting at the heart of the extractive capitalist system that fosters intensive industrial activity & development issues all over the world. The West has every reason to take responsibility to stop this Western-led disaster + China & India are taking serious steps 🙂 https://t.co/kN7slSiVsj

… and unfortunately it's not just businessmen. We also have politicians – in ministries and other key positions – who don't have a grasp of politics (or who think public goods should be run as a business – not sure which one is worse).
— ChaoticCosmos (@MinadaRui) April 23, 2019
Hoping @MedwayLabour's Oluseyi Obadare's scheduled question to #MedwayCouncil receives an intelligent reply tomorrow.

Thanks for holding @MedwayTories to account on their absurd use of #pesticides on grass verges (a task outsourced to a private provider of course).#BringItOn
Think of it as the death throes of the old world, hysterically choking over its own bile as the brave, the compassionate and the principled take over. Always makes me feel better in the face of such pathetic behaviour, anyway! https://t.co/0Zkk2zUNgj

So you guys have been replaced then.
— Chris Spud Spalding (@Spud_Spalding) April 21, 2019
Is that as Hazel Williams which is the name you gave on the candidate forms you signed or as Hazel Browne, the name you used on your nomination to get yourself higher the ballot paper? Some might call that cheating!
— Chris Spud Spalding (@Spud_Spalding) April 22, 2019
I’ve lived in Medway for 30 years and in that time I have been visited by exactly zero candidates or canvassers.
However, reading the quality of the above tweets I am relieved that I haven’t come into contact with any of them.
